Description
A dissertation based on interviews with seven miners and ex-miners from Northumberland and Newcastle upon Tyne. The first of its three chapters contains a biographical note on, and the recollections of, the collector's principal informant, William Mayther. Chapter Two includes sections on pigeon-racing, whippet-racing, show leeks and potshare bowling. The final chapter contains examples of oral tradition, including local expressions (with explanations) and folk song texts. A glossary of dialect words is also included.
