A study of crab fisheries in Norfolk, with particular reference to Cromer and Sheringham. The Introduction provides a brief description of the two towns, followed by sections which describe the crab fishing grounds, methods of fishing (the launching of the boats, the boats, the pots, the shooting of pots, the distribution of crabs and other fishing in the area), the historical background to the industry in the area and the influence of the marine scientist Frank Buckland, types of crabs, occupational customs and beliefs (nicknames, the counting of crabs, taboo words, clergymen, whistling, porpoises, days of the week, the moon, Old Shuck, smoking, loading and shooting pots, the seventh wave, clothing, Henry Blogg, weather sayings, weddings, fisherman's prayer).
