Description
A study of the dialect spoken in the Lancashire village of Pilling, based on data collected through fieldwork interviews with three local informants. An introduction to the village and the informants is followed by four chapters which record the sounds of the modern dialect, the development of Middle English vowels in the dialect (stressed and unstressed syllables), and present a tabular summary of Old English, Middle English, Old French, Scandinavian and other equivalents of the stressed vowels in the Pilling dialect.
