Weatherlore in Rothwell, West Riding

Description

A presentation of weather sayings and beliefs known to sixteen inhabitants of Rothwell in West Yorkshire, gathered by the collector during fieldwork interviews. Following an introductory section which outlines humankind's relationship with the weather, and describes Rothwell's situation, the study presents items of weatherlore, grouped under twenty headings. These are: calendar beliefs (seasons), calendar beliefs (by month), sky, stars, clouds, moon, wind, snow, frost, ice, cold, warm, dew, mist and fog, rain, thunder, visibility and sound, animals, plants, trees and flowers, miscellaneous.
