Folk Medicine

Description

An examination of some of the medical beliefs and practices of the past in North Yorkshire, based on printed sources (including the writing of Eliza Gutch and Richard Blakeborough), and interviews with people resident in the region. The study comprises eight sections. The first presents background information on the subject, and the geographical area under consideration. Further sections consider precautionary measures, coughs and allied complaints, skin troubles, other ailments, witches and anti-witchcraft measures, animal cures and psychological cures
