The Dialects of Bensham and Sunderland
Description
A study of the dialect spoken in Bensham (in Gateshead), and Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. Data was collected from two informants from each locality during the Easter and summer of 1969. An introduction to the localities, and an outline of the collection, transcription and presentation of data, is followed by sections which present the vowel sounds, and the consonants, of the two dialects. An Index of Words is included. Reference is made to the tape recording of one informant, but this tape was not submitted with the study.
