Stevenage Fair
Description
A study of Stevenage Fair, based on documentary evidence and fieldwork interviews carried out in 1982. Six sections provide a general history of fairs, the history of Stevenage Fair, a description of the fair (location, organisation, atmosphere), descriptions of the rides, stalls and shows, attitudes of the public, showmen and the authorities and a conclusion. Postcard prints, copies of photographs taken between 1907 and 1974, and photographs taken in 1982, show the town of Stevenage (1901 and 1982), the fair and its stalls and rides.
