The Phonology of the Dialect of Heriot

Description

A study of the dialect spoken in the village of Heriot in the Scottish Borders, based principally on the data collected from fieldwork interviews with two local informants. An introduction to the village and the main informants is followed by sections which record the vowels of stressed syllables, short monophthongs, long monophthongs, diphthongs, vowels of unstressed syllables and (in tabular form) consonants. An Index lists the words on which the survey is based.
