The Dialect of Egerton, Lancashire
Description
A study of the dialect spoken in Egerton in Lancashire, based on data collected from local informants during the Easter and summer of 1967. An introduction to the village, and the fieldwork methodology employed (use of the Dieth-Orton Questionnaire and a tape recorder), is followed by four sections which record the vowel and consonant sounds, and the vowel sound groups and consonant sound groups, of the dialect. An Appendix contains a map showing the Survey of English Dialects network of northern localities. An Index of Words is included. Although reference is made in the Introduction to the tape recording of informants, no tapes were submitted with the study.
