Glimpses of Industrial Bradford
Description
A study comprising six sections. The Introduction presents a history of the woollen and worsted industries, whilst the second section outlines phases in industrial development, from the guild and domestic systems through to the factory system. Brief reference is made to the nature of the trade in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Further sections on school and half-timing, the home and family, leisure time, festivals, holidays and customs, are based on the recollections of six informants from Bradford. A short glossary of local terms is included, and photographs show religious, domestic, commercial and industrial buildings in the city. These include the premises of Lister and Company Limited, Drummond James and Sons Limited and Jeremiah Ambler Limited .
