The Folk Songs of Bedfordshire

Description

A study of songs collected from three adult informants living in Bedfordshire, and from children at a Luton Junior School. The study comprises sections which consider previous song collecting conducted in the county, the collector's own research methodology, the changing nature of the song tradition, love songs, May songs and carols, children's singing games, humorous songs, problem songs and defining a folk song, the future of folk song and further research. Song texts and tune transcriptions are included throughout. An Appendix contains information on, and photographs of, the collector's informants. Photographs of the Luton schoolchildren at play, taken by the collector in January 1966, are also included. An Index of First Lines is provided.
