The Lore and Language of the Children at the Herman Junior School, Gorleston, Great Yarmouth
Description
A study of the lore and language of fourth-year schoolchildren at Herman Junior School, Gorleston in Norfolk, based on answers given to a questionnaire compiled by the collector. The sections contained within the study correspond to the questionnaire sections. An introductory section provides an explanation of the collector's chosen transcription technique and the questionnaire used. The following sections concern school dinners, swearwords, nicknames, terms of abuse, cries of joy and acclamation, teachers' nicknames, omens and good and bad luck. An addendum contains a note on local dialect.
