The Phonology of the Dialect of Sampford Peverell, in Devon
Description
A study of the dialect spoken in the Devon village of Sampford Peverell, based on data collected from three principal informants resident in the village. An introduction to the village and its environs is followed by four chapters which present a description of the sounds of the Sampford Peverell dialect [recorded in 1967], describe the development of the Middle English vowels and diphthongs (stressed), vowels (unstressed), and features of syntax (verbs, pronouns). A Word List is included.
