Quarry Bank Mill: The Development of a Folk Museum
Description
A dissertation describing the development of Quarry Bank Mill as a museum, tracing the history of the village of Styal where it is situated, the mill and, briefly, the Lancashire cotton industry. In doing this the study is divided into two parts, the first looking at the village, the mill and how it worked, and the second offering a definition of a folk museum and a description of the contents and development of Quarry Bank. Appendices provide transcripts of sections from tape recorded interviews made by the collector in August and December 1977, and a Report on the potential of Styal as a visitor attraction, written by Elisabeth Beazley following her visit to the site in September 1977. A copy of the questionnaire used is also included.
