Description
A dissertation on the shrimping community of Marshside in Southport. Five chapters present a brief history of the shrimping industry in the town (including photographs of shrimping boats and a hand-drawn map of the Southport shrimping grounds), contemporary methods of shrimp catching (including photographs and line drawings of shrimp rigs, and equipment used in the catching, processing and transportation of shrimps), the people (known as The Shankers, after the Shank net they use in shrimping) and their way of life, the future of the Southport shrimping industry.
