Folk Songs of Northumberland and Durham

Description

A collection of folk songs recorded from four informants (including a miner, and a mother and daughter) living in Northumberland and Durham. The text and tune transcription for each song are provided. The collection is preceded by brief sections on fieldwork methodology, the state of the folk song in Northumberland in 1964, Music Hall and country dance influences on the songs, and the milieu of the folk song. The songs are presented in eight broad categories: mining, humorous, ballads, historical, domestic, love, miscellaneous, sea. A glossary of terms used within some of the songs is included.
