The Art of Tattooing

Description

A study containing eight chapters. These cover the origins of tattooing, technique (including a section on the Japanese technique), designs, motives (including sections on conformity, superstition, addiction, status, sexual motivation, ornamentation, money, exhibitionism, clothing replacement, identification, boredom and draft dodging), female tattooing, cosmetic tattooing, the hazards of tattooing and the removal of tattoos, tattooing and art. Photographs and images from magazines, showing tattoo styles and designs, are included. Two photocopied newspaper articles from the 'Yorkshire Evening Post' are also included (one relating to the collector's research).
