The Smoking Pipe
Description
A thesis in four sections, presenting a history of the pipe, descriptions of the manufacture and styles of clay, brier, wooden, non-wood and Meerschaum pipes, pipe practice (public and private), the pipe in folktales, the personable pipe, and the powers of the pipe. An Appendix includes notes on the clay pipe in Leeds, the pipe in poetry and phraseology and a glossic index. A separate file contains printed illustrations and photographs.
