An Investigation of Popular Belief in Luck, with Special Reference to the Whitby Lucky Ducks
Description
A study of student interpretations of luck, based on responses to a questionnaire compiled by the collector, and the physical embodiment of this belief in the form of small, glass lucky ducks made and sold as lucky charms at the Whitby Glass Studio in Whitby. The study is in seven chapters. The first introductory chapter is followed by a description of the Whitby Lucky Duck story, and further chapters on superstition and development, superstition as an element of daily activity and as a product of an uncertain environment. The sixth chapter considers luck and religion. Chapter Seven offers some concluding remarks.
