A Descriptive Account of the Living Dialect of Harrow in North-West London
Description
A study of the dialect spoken in Harrow, Greater London, based on data collected through fieldwork interviews with two local informants. An introduction to the borough and the informants is followed by five chapters which record the vowels of stressed syllables, the development of Middle English stressed and unstressed vowels, and consonants, in the dialect, and a tabular summary of the Old English, Middle English, Old Norse and Old French equivalents of the stressed vowels in the Harrow dialect. An index of words used as illustrations and examples in the study is included.
