A Survey of the Dialect of Easington Colliery
Description
A study of the dialect spoken in Easington Colliery, County Durham, based on data collected through fieldwork interviews with a married couple (both retired) living in the village. An introduction to the village and the informants is followed by four chapters which present a description of the sounds recorded in 19[77], the development of Middle English sounds (stressed and unstressed syllables), and a tabular summary of historical equivalents of modern stressed vowels. A Word List is included. An Ordnance Survey map (Seaham Sheet NZ 44) is affixed to the back inside cover of the study.
