Folk Medicine from Leicestershire

Description

A collection of traditional cures, gathered through fieldwork interviews in Leicester and villages on the outskirts of the city, and consultation of printed sources. The study has two main sections, the first dealing with preventive measures, the second detailing cures for particular ailments. This latter section has sections on colds and allied complaints, the head, the joints, poultices, internal disorders, skin ailments, children's ailments, miscellaneous cures, patent medicines and recipes. Four appendices provide information on herbalism in Leicester, blood-letting and leaches, colour therapy and the use of saliva in folk medicine.
