A Description of the Dialect of Timperley, Cheshire
Description
A study of the dialect spoken in Timperley, Cheshire, based on fieldwork interviews with two local informants. An introduction to the area and the informants (including reproduction maps for different periods, and photographs) is followed by three chapters which present a descriptive account of the sounds used in the Timperley dialect, describe the development of Middle English sounds in the living dialect (vowels of stressed syllables), and present a summary of the modern Timperley equivalents of the Middle English stressed vowels. An index of words used for the purpose of illustration in the study is also included.
