The Phonology of the Dialect of Norwich

Description

A study of the dialect spoken in the city of Norwich, Norfolk, based on data collected through fieldwork interviews with one informant. An introduction to the city and the informant is followed by five chapters which present the phonology of sounds in the dialect recorded in 19[81], the development of Middle English vowels and diphthongs in stressed syllables in the dialect, the development of Middle English vowels in the unstressed syllables in the dialect, a tabular summary of short vowel, long vowel and diphthong sounds, and an alphabetical index of words recorded during fieldwork.
