A Survey of the Farm Houses and Their Yard Buildings in the Parish of Moretonhampstead, Devon
Description
A survey of thirty-two farm houses and attached yard buildings which provides a description of the vernacular architecture of the parish of Moretonhampstead in Devon. The collector describes the area, the local building materials and buildings with which the survey is concerned. Individual farms are listed and classified according to the general period in which they were built. Photographs taken by the collector illustrate examples from each period. The bulk of the study comprises survey sheets for each farm house and yard building investigated. These record information relating to the walls, roof, windows, chimneys and doors, and include drawings of the buildings (side, end and plan elevations) and individual architectural features. Note is also made of the products of the farm, acreage and allocation of the buildings. This information is supplemented throughout with photographs taken by the collector.
