A Comparison of the Dialects of Eyam and Pilsley, Derbyshire
Description
An examination of two dialects existing within the county of Derbyshire, based principally on interviews with four informants (two from each of the localities, Eyam and Pilsley). An introduction to the villages (including photographs) and the informants is followed by five chapters which describe the vowel sounds of the two dialects, examine the Middle English origins of the stressed vowel sounds of both dialects, present a comparison of the two in tabular form, and examine the similarities and differences between the dialects. An index of words used as examples in the study is included.
