Fifty Years of Wragby Life

Description

A dissertation which looks at life in the Lincolnshire village of Wragby during the first fifty years of the twentieth century. The information it presents is based on the memories and printed ephemera held by the collector's grandmother, and supplemented by the recollections of other family members. Four sections provide an introduction to the village, information on its economic development (with sections on communications and transport, the sale of Wragby, industrial enterprise, the market place, I. W. Sutton (the collector's grandfather and gentleman's hairdresser)), social development (with sections on children's activities, schooling, games, Christmas; sport; events, clubs and committees, including the Flower Show, Wragby Pig Club, concerts and other activities during World War Two). Each of these sections is illustrated with photographs (originals and copies). An Appendix contains census figures for the period 1801 to 1971, and photographs of the village in 1979.
