Male informants recorded in conversation in a pub [?in Pateley Bridge, December 1970], talking about inter-village/town rivalries; relating humorous local dialect anecdotes; talk of a haunted house; male sings 'My Old Man Said Follow the Band' (with ?ukulele accompaniment), followed by a medley of other songs. [Tr. 7] Fred Longthorne, in conversation at home in Greenhow (North Yorkshire), March 1971, relating local anecdotes and recollections of practical jokes played; reads from a book on Greenhow (re. farming and leadmining) and the legend of John Kay and the tradition of tapping his headstone with shoes.
