Schoolgirls recorded in the playground at Birdsedge First School, Birdsedge, on the 24 January 1980. Sing 'I'm Only a Poor Little Gymnast', 'Vote, Vote, Vote'[skipping]; talk about being on, and winter/summer games. [Much inaudible due to wind noise picked up by the microphone.] [Tr. 3] Girls talk about where they live, and give their ages; talk with boys; girls describe elastics, and gives the counting-out rhymes 'Your Shoe is Dirty', 'One Potato, Two Potato', 'Ickle, Ockle' and 'Ip Dip'; also tell jokes. [Tr. 4] Mrs. Frith and her daughter [?Toni] talk about children's games and rhymes known to them. Mrs. Frith gives her biographical details, and goes on to talk about war games during World War Two, made up games (shops), skipping, hopscotch, whip and top; gives details of skipping (doubling up) and the songs 'Nebukanezah King of the Jews'and 'One, Two, Three O' Laira'; daughter playing elastics; string games; clapping game explained; autograph book rhymes; One Potato Two Potato as a clapping game; knuckles; tag games; ball games; daughter contributes skipping rhyme/game examples, ring games, ball games; Mrs. Frith explains the game 'London Bridge is Falling Down'.
