Description
Col Goodison, recorded in his home in Sheffield, singing and in conversation. Sings fragment of 'Give Me the Spade'; talks about other songs/singers, including his father; Knur and Spell; Christmas carols and the Caking Night custom in the Stannington area of Sheffield (also at the Royal pub in the nearby village of Dungworth). Recorded 16 March 1971. [Tr. 1] Bert Womack recorded singing in his home in the Stannington area of Sheffield. Also discussion of other songs and singers. Recorded 1 April 1971. [Tr. 2] Fragment of 'Farmer's Boy' [location, date and singer unidentified]. [Tr. 3] Joe Womack [recorded in his home, possibly a copy of a recording on the missing tape A134r. The Tape Table of Contents for Joe Womack on LAVC/SRE/A136r refers to tape S26, Ian Russell's reference for LAVC/SRE/A134r] sings 'Wild Rover', 'All Jolly Fellows that Follow the Plough'[part], [unidentified], 'Nothing Else to Do'[part], 'White Cockade' [part], 'Jim the Carter's Lad'[part], a Wassail song and 'Spout Cottage'. The last two songs were traditionally sung during New Year house/farm visiting. [Possibly recorded on 10 April 1971.] [Tr. 4]
