Bob Hart, recorded at home in Snape on 16 April 1974[conclusion of session which starts on tape LAVC/SRE/A329r]; sings 'The Ship that Never Returned'; working at sea (cooking, rope work) on drifters and trawlers; storms at sea; working off the Shetland Isles and the East coast [of England]; interest in singing; sings 'Old Shep'; song ownership; sings 'Jolly Jack the Sailor Lad' (learned at sea); improvisation; sings 'The Dark Eyed Sailor'; memorisation of songs; sings 'Barbara Allen', and discusses this and a second version that he also sings. Sings 'What a Funny Little Place to Have One', 'In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree'(and discussion of); sings 'The Village Pump'.
