Description
Michael Downes, [recorded at home in County Clare], plays various fiddle tunes, and talks about where he learned them, the story behind one particular tune, other fiddle players, fiddle competitions and Junior Crehan. Recorded in Doonogan on 15 July 1976. [Tr. 28] Junior Crehan, recorded by Jim Carroll and Pat Mackenzie, playing the fiddle and singing in the Crosses of Annagh bar, Miltown Malbay on the 13 September 1973. Includes also conversation concerning playing technique and use of the bow, the selection of reels, the story behind a particular air (recites words, translated from Gaelic), background to the ballad 'The Young and Single Sailor' - boating tragedy off Galway - Junior Crehan sings fragment; talks of other fiddle players; fiddle tunes and one song.
