Description
Male informant [as for tapes LAVC/SRE/A659r - A662r], recorded in New Zealand; talks about a poem he has written for the collector, and translates a Maori leavetaking. [Tr. 1] Copy recording of a group of Maori singers [fragment]; male and female sing a selection of Maori songs - also male/female solos, group singing and chants (unaccompanied). Possibly extracts from the collector's field recordings [no dates, locations]. [Tr. 2] Maori pipe music. [Tr. 3] Maori songs/chants, preceded by a male announcer who states the date as 22nd January 1972, the location, singer and their tribe. Each song is given an item number (937 - 957). [Tr. 4] Maori song/chant (Item 958). Male announcer states the date as 9th March 1972, the location as the University of Auckland, the two singers' names and the names of their tribes.
