Sound Recordings, Staffordshire

Description

Male and female informants (A to E), recorded in their homes in Cannock giving answers to a questionnaire devised by the collector. This comprised seventy-one questions, and was used to elicit responses which were transcribed phonetically and the data analysed in the collector's Ph.D. thesis, 'A Study of Speech Patterns in the Urban District of Cannock, Staffordshire'. The five informants here recorded were used to test out the questionnaire, prior to further fieldwork with over ninety informants. This tape also contains a 1967 BBC Radio broadcast by Stanley Ellis, from his 'Dialects in Britain' series. 2 of 7.
