Description
Interview with male informant in his home in Leeds, recorded as part of the collector's sociolinguistic inquiry in the city. The recording was made using a radio transmitter in the informant's house, and a receiver operated by Stanley Ellis in a car outside. The collector calls at the house, explains the process and purpose of the interview to the informant's wife, and how the informant has been selected; [positioning of seats and microphone]; explains interview procedure; announcement by informant to test the recording level; informant answers the collector's questionnaire [as with tapes LAVC/SRE/A876r-A880r, the collector starts and stops the tape recorder before and after each answer]; followed by conversation, in which informant talks about lorry driving; collector plays back part of the recording for the informant to hear, and talks about smoking; informant gives biographical details, and talks about his current home; reference to back-to-back houses in the Hunslet area of Leeds, and their demolition. 6 of 6.
