[Collector announcement]; Sam Friend, a retired horseman, recorded in his home in Framsden. George Ewart Evans is also present, and prompts occasionally. Mr. Friend talks about working as a farm lad from 1900; ploughing for the first time, aged fourteen; working whilst still at school; being taught to milk cows; entertainment - singing and dancing; working with horses. Mrs. Savage talks about her marriage; husband's work as a shepherd; family; gathering wheat for grinding; baking; brick ovens; Dutch oven (fuelled by faggots); brewing beer; Christmas - stockings, bell ringers; handbell ringing on Christmas morning; Christmas Day food; school and schoolmaster - lessons, teachers, corporal punishment, dinners; Christmas holiday; stone picking and wheat (gleaning) from fields; husband's work as a shepherd; lambing time; sheep shearing (in fields).
