Mr. Woodman [?recorded in the garden of his home, in Honiton] talks about the dry weather; a flood two years previously; vegetable gardening; farm work and working hours [tape runs fast to this point, and then normalises]; fruit and vegetable growing; weatherlore re. wind direction; working with land maids (i.e. Women's Land Army) during World War Two. Mr. Woodman continues with talk of hedge laying (explains the technique); agricultural working hours; labourers' holidays (Union involvement in securing holidays with pay); farm workers' pay; thoughts on drop in numbers pursuing farming as a career. 5 of 11.
