[Collector announcement (Ellis)]; Mr. ?Richards, recorded outside in Llanafan-fawr [undated]; talks about the electricity supply to the area; fire grates in local houses; peat burning; local dwellings; discusses a house interior, whilst standing inside a derelict cottage; talk of the bread oven and bread making; the internal layout of the cottage, and its previous owners [the building now used as a ?farm building/?storage shed by the informant]; informant's farming activities; calving; cow ailments, including black water, and remedies. [Tr. 6] [Collector announcement (Ellis)]; [gap, five minutes]; Trevor Williams, recorded in Upper Chapel; talks about the education of children, and encouraging ability; the bettering of children through education, and their moving away from the area/farming as a career; discuss his father-in-law's speech; Mr. Williams' schooling; working on his uncle's farm (wages/hours in 1934/1935); the standard of living and food supply (compares this with the quality of life for some farm servants); describes Fair day at Brecon, and the attitudes of farmers assessing agricultural labourers; movement of labour away from rural areas to the cities; attitudes to farm labouring; alternative employment (in garages, driving) with the coming of tractors; disappearance of smaller farms and villages in the area (eighty-four, due to the establishment of an artillery range); rural depopulation; amalgamation of smaller farms; farming, farm sizes and hill rights (summer grazing); current attitude to farmers/farming.
