Ceridwen Thomas offers recollections of her childhood in early twentieth century Treorchy - World War One, housework, gardening; also, childbirth; parental discipline; miners' strikes; Rhondda cake; Stay-In strike of 1934; the Welsh language; Chapel and Sunday School [fault - interference - low recording level for 1 minute] outings to Barry, Aberavon and Porthcawl (by train); local girls leaving for work (in service) in London; custom and belief - no work done on New Year's Day or Good Friday (wash on New Year's Day, you wash your soul away and you'll be washing for the rest of the year). 4 of 5.
