Description
[Collector announcement]; Eddy Arker, recorded driving in his car to a rehearsal of the Dalesmen Male Voice Choir in Danby. EA relates the history of the choir - formation five years ago; and talks about membership, competitions entered (including Eskdale), the villages that choir members come from, practices, concerts, Danby quoit members, the occupations of choir members and the choir's repertoire; also talks about a concert given in Ugthorpefor the Quoit Club, and comments on the village's Quoits Supper. [Tr. 3] Rehearsal of the Dalesmen Male Voice Choir, recorded in Danby Village Hall. First hear the voice of the conductor, followed by the choir singing the first line As a white candle; line repeated, at a higher recording level; the choir sing 'Michelle' [with piano accompaniment], [? 'Miller of Dee'], 'Kumbayah' [with piano] and 'The Long Day Closes' [with piano]. [Tr. 4] Interview with a founder member of the choir, recorded during the evening of the choir rehearsal.
