Compilation of Survey of English Dialects fieldwork recordings (copies) for Nottinghamshire locations 9Nt1-4, and Lincolnshire 10L1-3. The original recordings were made in 1952, 1956, 1957 and 1965. The date when this copy tape was made is not known. [Collector announcement]; George Parr, a fruit farmer, recorded at home in North Wheatley; talks about land use around Wheatley; the effect of war on the price of fruit produce; labour costs; local cherry orchards; apple trees (grafting and pollination); types of apples. [Tr. 11] [Announcement]; Reuben Shaw, a retired joiner, recorded at home in Cuckney; talks about cricket; playing football; cycling; cleaning the bikes of the Duke and Duchess of Portland; work as a joiner. [Tr. 12] [Collector announcement]; Jack Taylor, a retired farmer, recorded at home in South Clifton; describes a ferry boat across the River Trent; the flooding of the village; mowing a field of grass by hand; ploughing; bird scaring. [Tr. 13] [Collector announcement]; Percy Strutt, a retired farm worker, recorded at home in Oxton; talks about working with farm horses, and breaking them in.
