Description
[Side 1] Arthur remembers grandfather mowing by hand with 'lea' [= scythe] 3 acres a day for 10 shillings, describes own mixed farm, comments now specialises in pedigree beef cattle, talks about cattle breeding and shows, describes most successful bull. [Side 2] Arthur compares weather now and in past, recalls wet summer of 1912 and recent severe winter, comments snow similar to 1947 but did not 'hap up' [ = pile up, drift] as much, describes farm career, left school at 13, three years as farm lad, started with smallholding, now 15 years on current farm, recalls Egton hirings (5 November) and Egton Fair, incl. cattle sales, tells anecdote about local man buying blind cow at Egton Fair.
