English Dialect Sound Recordings (England and Wales)
Description
The majority of recordings are edited copies of original field tape recordings of English dialect speakers, made as part of the Survey of English Dialects (SED) between 1951 and 1962 by its principal fieldworker, Stanley Ellis. The subseries also contains further (edited) copies of these tape recordings, and additional field recordings made in new locations by Stanley Ellis on behalf of under- and postgraduate language students studying at the University of Leeds. The recordings by SED fieldworkers Michael Barry, Peter Wright, W. Nelson Francis and Howard Berntsen are also contained within this subseries.
