Description

[Side 1] William mentions War Ag [= War Agricultural Executive Committee] wanted him to lead team of men for draining land during World War 1 but farmer refused permission, describes years of experience installing drainage pipes incl. installing 33,000 in 1916, tells anecdote about dangerous bull, explains local farmer moved bull to 'close' [= field] after it had broken barn door, recalls ploughing field next to close and worrying bull would escape. [Side 2] William continues anecdote about dangerous bull, recalls visit from London cattle dealer, two brothers to show dealer calves and 'cob' [= short-legged, stout variety of horse] while William checked recently sown wheat field, on way back noticed hay and sheets strewn all over close and discovered brother in house with broken collar-bone having been attacked by bull, finally found bull in 'cart-hovel' [= cart shed] and asked farm worker to fetch cows to entice bull back.
