[Side 2] John recalls volunteering with four friends for Boer War, granted ten days' notice following enrolment in Worcester to make arrangements for smallholding, comments liked South Africa but caught dysentery and enteric [= typhoid fever], briefly mentions escorting prisoners to Bloemfontein, describes conditions in South Africa incl. unhygienic water in Orange River.
