[Side 1] Charles talks about traditional farm practice, briefly mentions ploughing, threshing and describes stacking techniques, compares methods now and in past, recalls long hours with horses before advent of tractor, describes daily routine when first started farming from milking by hand to milk round, reflects on challenges of buying and selling sheep and 'beast' [= cattle]. [Side 2] Charles relates several difficult experiences with calving, recalls incident when veterinary attended cow with twins, one calf still-born and 'cleansing' [= afterbirth] rancid, describes how he suffered more frequently with 'pick' [= aborted calf] after visit from trader 'hawking' [= selling] preventive cure, explains how he suspects he infected herd intentionally, describes last incidence of 'pick' when cow lost 'calf-bed' [= womb] making policeman who came to help 'boke' [= to retch/vomit].
