[Side 1] Arthur explains route of local Roman road to Yeovil, describes condition and regular use by walkers and children in holidays, recalls local woman who used to threaten passers-by, talks about first job aged 12 in dairy before becoming 'hawker' [= pedlar], describes layout and maintenance of cow-shed in past, recalls uncle harvesting rush to make mats, demonstrates typical use of dialect among locals, recalls occasion father saved grandfather froim burning building. [Side 2] Arthur recalls buying first tractor, discusses gradual sale of land to council for housing, recalls time when hawkers regularly passed through Merriott, talks about horse trade, comments peak sales period during Word War (Two?), tells anecdote about occasion when he had to deal with 'jibber' [= horse that refuses to move] after threshing near Hinton and riding instructor from St Felix School offering to fetch help.
