[Side 1] Joe compares different shapes of stacks built locally incl. boat-shaped and gable-ended, stresses importance of building 'rick' [= haystack] to deter mice, explains how to thatch stack ensuring 'yelms' [= bundles of straw] are laid correctly to prevent moisture getting in, recalls preparing 'broaches' [= thatching rods] on wet days in readiness for harvest, describes use of 'scuds' [= rope made of twisted straw used to secure thatching pegs] and 'scud-winder' [= rope-twister]. [Side 2] Joe recalls working with horses in past, lists crops grown on own farm, talks briefly about harvesting barley and wheat, describes use of 'scuds' [= rope made of twisted straw used to secure broaches to thatch] and 'broaches' [= thatching rods], explains how to make scuds with 'scud winder' [= rope twister, implement for making straw rope].
