Description
[Side 1] Bob talks about mare prone to biting when driven backwards, recalls incident when he ran and used whip to prevent mare from going into river when carting stone, describes occasion when horses bolted when harvesting wheat with binder, explains binder broke and horses had to be rescued from railway cutting. [Side 2] Bob describes workings of mill, compares 'patent' mill [= mill with shutters controlled by system of rods and chains] to older 'cloth sail' mill [= mill with sheet of cloth pulled over wooden frame similar to sails on ship], recalls mother baking bread with 'meal' [= oatmeal] rather than flour in past, mentions local woman used to deliver brewer's yeast, herring, kippers, 'bloaters' [= salted herring], newspapers, books etc. door to door.
