[Side 1] Philip recalls Earl of Dumfries opening Roath Park in 1890s and excitement of free ride as child on first electric tram in Cardiff, compares cost of living now and in past, talks about work on farm, explains how to thatch 'mow' [= stack of corn/hay] and 'rick' [= round stack of corn/hay] incl. use of 'spar' [= hazel rod used to secure thatch], reflects on dairy farming now and in past. [Side 2] Philip talks about ploughing with horses, lists parts of plough incl. 'share' [= blade at front of plough which makes horizontal cut at bottom of furrow] and 'coulter' [= blade at front of plough that makes vertical cut], describes adjustable 'whipple-tree/bodkin' [= swingle-tree/crossbar to which trace-horse is fastened], reflects on mechanisation in farming, recalls seeing 'thrashing' [= threshing] by hand with 'flails' [= implement used for threshing corn by hand] in past.
